Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has raised an urgent alarm over the impending auction of Matili Technical Training Institute (TTI), calling on all elected leaders from the region to intervene and prevent the institution from being sold.
Speaking at a burial ceremony in Kamusinde, Kimilili, for the late Jackson Wamalwa, father of Engineer Moses Wamalwa of the County Roads Department, Governor Lusaka condemned the court-sanctioned auction, warning that it could jeopardize the academic future of thousands of students.
“This is one of the most reputable institutions in Bungoma, currently serving over 10,000 students in various technical programs. We cannot allow such a crucial public institution to be lost,” Lusaka stressed. “Leaders must set aside political differences and act immediately to stop the auction.”
The governor expressed concern over the legal proceedings that have escalated from a 2010 contractual dispute over the construction of a workshop complex into a debt crisis threatening the institute’s survival. Court documents confirm that an auctioneer has been authorized to proceed with the sale of the property.
Staff and students at Matili TTI are said to be anxious, with the institution’s future hanging in the balance.
Lusaka urged Bungoma’s political leaders to unite in safeguarding the educational welfare of the county’s youth and preserving this critical public asset. “We must restore stability at Matili TTI and ensure that such a vital institution is not lost due to administrative and financial mismanagement,” he added.
This call for action comes amid increasing public concern, with various stakeholders urging that the matter be resolved outside of court to ensure the institute’s operations continue without disruption.
