National Assembly Speaker Dr. Moses Wetang’ula has urged Kenyan leaders to prioritize respect and unity as the country navigates its development journey.
Speaking on Sunday at the Holy Trinity Parish in Saboti Constituency, Wetang’ula acknowledged President William Ruto’s leadership over the past two years emphasizing the need to focus on progress rather than dwelling on negatives.
“It is time to embrace the progress and development our country is experiencing, while acknowledging the pending issues that are being addressed,” Wetang’ula said.
He highlighted the government’s partnership with the World Bank to revitalize the coffee sector, stressing the importance of agriculture in supporting families’ livelihoods.
“The Cherry Fund is available to all coffee farmers, underscoring the importance this administration places on agriculture as an income earner,” he added.
Wetang’ula also called for a collective effort to address challenges in sectors like health and education.
“Instead of assigning blame, let us focus on finding solutions together,” he urged.
He further emphasized the need for collaboration between the government and the church, stating,
“The government and the church must work hand in hand; neither can exist in isolation.”
Addressing Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), Wetang’ula reminded them of their constitutional roles, urging them to refrain from acting as the executive’s spokespersons.
“Understand your mandate and remain committed to fulfilling it,” he said.
Wetang’ula was accompanied by Deputy Governor Philomenah Kapkori, Senator Allan Chesang, MPs Innocent Mugabe and Kakai Bisau, as well as several other leaders and MCAs.
