The Kenyan national football team, Harambee Stars, has introduced a striking new jersey design ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. This announcement comes as the team prepares for their crucial matches against Zimbabwe and Namibia.
A Fresh Look for a New Era
The new jerseys, unveiled on the Harambee Stars’ official X (formerly Twitter) page, have generated considerable excitement among fans and fashion enthusiasts alike. The home kit maintains the team’s iconic red, symbolizing passion and determination. Modeled by star players Patrick Matasi, Austin Odhiambo, and Kenneth Muguna, this vibrant red will be worn throughout the group stage matches.
The away kit presents a crisp white design, providing a sharp contrast to the home jersey, while the third kit is a bold green, adding variety to the team’s wardrobe.
Embracing Local Pride
In a notable departure from previous years, the new jerseys forego a designer logo, a change from the team’s former partnership with Uhlsport. Instead, the jerseys prominently feature the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) logo and an intricate lion print, symbolizing the strength and pride of the Kenyan team.
Harambee Stars have experimented with various kit suppliers over the years, including Uhlsport and Macron. The latest jerseys mark a fresh chapter in the team’s identity, emphasizing local elements and national pride.
Upcoming Matches and Qualifiers
Kenya’s AFCON qualifying campaign kicks off against Zimbabwe on September 4 at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Nambole, Uganda. The team will then face Namibia in an away game on September 10. Harambee Stars are placed in Group J of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers, where they will compete against Namibia, Cameroon, and Zimbabwe.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to be hosted by Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, will feature 24 nations vying for the prestigious title. The top two teams from each group will secure their spots in the tournament.
Moving Past Setbacks
The Harambee Stars are eager to make a strong comeback after missing the 2023 edition due to a FIFA ban imposed in 2022, which was attributed to third-party interference in the management of football in Kenya. This new jersey launch symbolizes a hopeful and revitalized effort to return to the continental stage with renewed vigor and national pride.
As Kenya gears up for their qualifying matches, the excitement around the new kits reflects a broader sense of optimism and commitment to the team’s future successes.
