
The accident occurred on Wednesday morning.According to the eye who spoke to the media, he said that the accident occurred at around 7:30 am where the tanker that was heading to Malaba route hit an electric post and burst into flames.
He said that immediately the tanker exploded, the locals called the Bungoma County firefighters station who arrived at the scene late.
“We tried to save the driver who was still inside the burning tanker but we could not manage,” he added.
He further blamed the firefighters for arriving at the scene late even after reaching on them in time.

Speaking at the scene, Bungoma County police commander Francis Kooli, confirmed that the tanker veered off the road hitting an electric post that led to the explosion causing the tanker to burst into flames.
Kooli said that the grisly accident has claimed the life of one person who is the tanker driver that was trapped inside the vehicle and the efforts to rescue him hit a snag.
“Even before the firefighters arrived, the locals tried rescuing him but they could not make it because of the fire explosion,” Kooli noted.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck was overtaking a matatu that was heading to Kanduyi route but unfortunately lost control causing the accident.Kooli said that nobody inside the PSV vehicle was injured.

However, the police boss called on the road users to be keen while using the busy highway.
There has been an increase in road accidents in Bungoma, on Tuesday, three people lost lives after a fast moving trailer hit two school going kids killing them on the spot.The police are currently at the accident scene.
