“No fuel shortage—just panic at the pump,” says CS Wandayi

Energy and Petroleum CS Opiyo Wandayi has told Parliamentary committee on Energy that Kenya is NOT facing a fuel shortage, dismissing public fears as panic-driven and fueled by hoarding and speculation.

But on the ground, the story feels different.

Long queues at select stations and uneven supply in some towns have left motorists anxious and confused.

Wandayi insists the system is stable and supply shipments are ongoing.

He says government is also working to strengthen fuel reserves to avoid future shocks.

Still, Kenyans are asking: if there is no shortage, why the queues?

Between Parliament’s assurances and the pump experience, the gap is widening—and so is public concern.
