National Assembly Speaker Dr. Moses Wetang’ula has warned leaders against fueling division and ethnic politics in Trans Nzoia.

He urged residents to embrace unity and back President William Ruto’s development agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a Palm Sunday fundraiser at St. Agnes Kapsara Parish in Cherangany, Wetang’ula said Trans Nzoia’s cosmopolitan nature should be a foundation for peaceful coexistence, not political fragmentation.

“I warn residents against blindly following politicians bent on sowing seeds of division and ethnicity, even as the region risks lagging behind in development,” he said.

Wetang’ula called on communities in the county to remain united and reject leaders who rely on insults and political confrontation.

“I urge residents to choose the path of peace and coexistence. We must not allow divisive politics to derail development. I will not be intimidated by leaders who thrive on insults to settle political scores,” he said.

He also rallied the region to support Ruto’s re-election, linking political stability to continued development gains under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka echoed the call for unity, urging Western Kenya to “speak with one voice” and organize early to strengthen its political influence.

Lusaka argued that aligning with the national government would accelerate key infrastructure projects, including the Rironi–Mau Summit–Malaba highway, the planned Standard Gauge Railway expansion and the affordable housing programme.

“A second term will ensure full realization of this development agenda,” Lusaka said.

The fundraiser, spearheaded by Ambassador Dr. Susan Nakhumicha, brought together several leaders, including presidential aide Farouk Kibet and West Pokot Woman Representative Rael Kasiwai, in what observers described as a show of growing political alignment in the region.

Nakhumicha emphasized community development and service delivery, aligning with the broader government push to improve livelihoods while consolidating support in Western Kenya ahead of 2027.

The leaders also contributed funds toward the completion of the church, blending political messaging with grassroots engagement in a region increasingly seen as pivotal in the next चुनाव cycle.
