Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno died on Saturday after a Eurocopter AS350 helicopter crashed in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, killing all six people on board, authorities said.
The aircraft is reported to have attempted an emergency landing due to bad weather before it caught fire. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has launched investigations into the cause of the crash.
But even before investigators could piece together what happened, political temperatures rose.
Kisii Sen. Richard Onyonka on Sunday claimed during a church service that Ng’eno was “killed,” suggesting the crash may not have been accidental.
Onyonka alleged that the lawmaker had resisted pressure to sign over land in Kilgoris believed to contain rare minerals. He did not provide evidence to support the claim, and investigators have not indicated foul play.
Ng’eno, known for his combative political style, had last year said in an interview that he was not afraid of death. “I told them if I am killed, ….will remember me for over 200 years,” he said at the time, remarks that have resurfaced widely online following the crash.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua described Ng’eno as a bold and fearless leader who had faced threats, and he called for a transparent and thorough investigation into the crash. Gachagua urged authorities to ensure that Kenyans receive clear answers, saying the country deserves the truth.
President William Ruto and other leaders across the political divide have mourned the MP as outspoken and dedicated to his constituents.
As investigations continue, authorities have not confirmed any evidence of assassination or foul play. For now, Ng’eno’s death remains under official probe — even as political rhetoric threatens to outpace the facts.
