Majority Whip and Bungoma Sen. CBS David Wakoli said no teacher has been employed by the County Government of Bungoma at Namatondoyi ECDE in Lower Matisi, Bokoli Ward, Webuye West Constituency, leaving volunteers to educate young learners without pay or support.
Speaking after visiting the center as part of his oversight duties, Wakoli said the institution lacks basic amenities, including toilets, a kitchen and essential learning materials.
He said there are no teaching aids or chalk, no fence around the compound and no electricity.
The senator said that since its establishment, the county government has not posted a single teacher to the facility.
Instead, he said, dedicated volunteers walk long distances daily to teach children without compensation, transport or any formal support.
Wakoli said the absence of critical infrastructure and staffing undermines the center’s ability to provide a strong educational foundation, terming the situation a failure to meet the responsibility owed to young learners.
He urged the County Government of Bungoma, under Gov. Kenneth Lusaka, to act swiftly to address the challenges and restore dignity to the institution.
