National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has congratulated Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his re-election, praising continuity in leadership and reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to closer regional cooperation.
In a statement, Wetang’ula said he extended his “warm congratulations” to Museveni as he begins another term in office, expressing optimism that Uganda would continue to advance peace, stability and development under his leadership.
Wetang’ula noted that Kenya’s Parliament remains committed to working closely with Uganda to strengthen regional integration, with a particular focus on ensuring that decisions made under the East African Community are translated from paper into practice.
He singled out resolutions and initiatives deliberated at the East African Legislative Assembly, saying their full implementation is essential to unlocking shared prosperity across the region.
The remarks underscore Nairobi’s broader push to deepen cooperation within the EAC, even as the bloc grapples with familiar challenges — from trade disputes to the slow pace of harmonising laws — that have tested the promise of integration.
Museveni, one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders, was declared winner of Uganda’s presidential election, securing another term and extending his decades-long hold on power.
