WEBUYE, Kenya
A 17-year-old girl from Maruti Village in Maraka Ward, Webuye West constituency, is appealing for financial support to undergo urgent surgery at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.
Rose Nanjala Juma says her struggle began when she noticed an unusual growth on her leg several years ago.
What was initially thought to be a mild swelling has since turned into a painful, life-altering condition.
“It became worse and started interfering with my normal movement,” Rose told journalists, fighting back tears.
Her father, Robert Juma, recalls that the growth first appeared in 2015 when Rose was in Class Seven.
Despite multiple attempts to seek treatment, the condition has worsened, forcing her to abandon school.
“The growth protruded to an extent that she could no longer walk comfortably or attend classes,” he said.
Area Assistant Chief Fredrick Mang’anyu confirmed that the family has exhausted nearly all their resources trying to treat their daughter.
“They have sold almost everything they own in search of treatment. The only hope now is to raise funds for the surgery,” he said.
The family needs KSh 400,000 to cover the medical expenses.
They are appealing to well-wishers, including Webuye West MP Martin Pepela,Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa,Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga, Senator Wafula Wakoli, Governor Kenneth Lusaka, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi,Jimmy Nduruchi and Bungoma businessman Zachariah Barasa, Webuye MP Dan Wanyama,philanthropist Lendrix Waswa among others, to come to Rose’s aid.
