BUNGOMA, Kenya (IP)

Bungoma High School has shaken off more than a decade of academic underperformance, posting its best Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results in years.

The results, released Friday, January 9, 2026, by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba, have sparked celebrations across the school and the wider Bungoma community.

Leading the top performers is Allan Baraka, who earned a flawless A plain in all subjects, topping his class and setting a high benchmark for his peers.

His achievement highlights a broader resurgence for the institution, which has long been regarded as one of Western Kenya’s “giant” schools.

A Decade Peak

The 2025 cohort’s results mark a turning point for the school:

• 3 A (Plain) grades: Headed by Allan Baraka.

• 10 A- (Minus) grades: Demonstrating a strong presence among the country’s top performers.

• 250+ university qualifiers: Students scoring C+ and above secured direct entry into universities, signaling a significant jump in the school’s transition rate.

Leadership and Stakeholder Unity

Bishop Wycliffe Wasike, the school’s chief principal, credited the turnaround to a renewed spirit of collaboration among teachers, parents, and students.

“This success is the result of deliberate cooperation between all our stakeholders,” Bishop Wasike said during post-result celebrations. “Their dedication has finally yielded the positive results we have been praying for.”

The school’s leadership team—Deputy Principal in charge of academics Francis Karanja and administration deputy Toili Khisa—echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the results mark the beginning of a sustained rise.

“There is a new dawn at Bungoma High School,” they said jointly. “We are not just celebrating today; we are committing ourselves to upholding these standards and ensuring this school remains a fixture in the national top-tier rankings.”

As news of the results spread across Bungoma town, alumni and residents joined in the celebrations, noting that the school’s revival is a victory for the entire county.

After years of underperformance, Bungoma High appears to have regained its footing, proving that strategic leadership and stakeholder unity can overcome even the longest periods of academic dormancy.
