The late Sabastian Ngobi
KAMPALA, Dec. 7, 2025 (IP)
Sabastian Ngobi, the director of human resources and technology at the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), has died, a longtime colleague said on Saturday.
The death was announced in a public Facebook message by Professor Fred Charles Oweyegha Afunaduula, who described Ngobi as “an important gift from God.”
Afunaduula said he learned of Ngobi’s passing “with deep sorrow,” recounting a friendship that began when the two were undergraduates at the University of Dar es Salaam in 1972.
He praised Ngobi’s role in his life and family and recalled Ngobi’s support during recent health challenges.
Ngobi had a long career in education administration in both Uganda and Kenya.
His résumé included serving as headteacher of Ruiru High School in Kenya, academic registrar and later human resources manager at Makerere University and finally director of human resources and technology at UNEB, a position he held until his death.
In his message, Afunaduula shared personal memories of Ngobi — including that some of his children were born in Ngobi’s home in Kenya — and paid tribute to Ngobi’s integrity and lifelong service.
“My family and I have lost an important gift from God,” he wrote, offering condolences to Ngobi’s family and UNEB staff.
UNEB had not immediately responded to requests for comment and further details about the cause of death and funeral arrangements were not available on Saturday.
