ENTEBBE — CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Nov. 15 hosted MONUSCO Force Commander Lt. Gen. Ulises De Mesquita Gomes for high-level discussions aimed at strengthening regional cooperation against ADF terrorists in eastern DRC.

The talks focused on reinforcing joint Operation Shujaa with FARDC forces, which military officials say has weakened rebel groups and improved stability in several areas.

Lt. Gen. Gomes, accompanied by Brig. Gen. Givenz Kishombe Sichali and Col. Patrick Locatelli, commended the UPDF for its continued role in regional peace efforts.

🇺🇬 Cohabitation Does Not Constitute Legal Marriage, High Court Rules

KAMPALA — The High Court of Uganda has ruled that cohabitation, regardless of how long a couple lives together or what they believe about the union, does not amount to legal marriage unless statutory requirements are met.

The ruling stems from a case involving a 2018 customary union that the court declared void under Section 11(e) of the Customary Marriages (Registration) Act.

The court emphasized that customary marriages must be registered to be legally recognized.

The 2018 union was found invalid due to failure to meet the necessary registration and procedural standards.

🇺🇬 Police Seek DNA Test to Identify Body Found in Nagalama Swamp

MUKONO — Police in Mukono District are seeking a court order to exhume and conduct DNA tests on an unidentified body recovered from Musaale Swamp in Namulaba Village, Kyampisi Subcounty to determine whether it belongs to missing child Aneza Merisa.

The body, discovered on Nov. 10, was buried shortly after recovery because it was badly decomposed.

It was dressed in a navy-blue student skirt marked “Nanyonga VII,” though no school by that name has been identified.

The family of Aneza Merisa has raised concerns that the body may be hers.

🇺🇬 WAKISO: Residents Petition NEMA Over Odour From Senyonga’s Piggery Project

WAKISO — Residents of Mwererwe Kavule, Wakiso District, have petitioned NEMA over foul odours they say are coming from Pastor Jackson Senyonga’s piggery project.

Community leaders from Mwererwe COU Parish, Mwererwe Catholic Parish, nearby schools and the local health centre allege that the stench from dead pigs and waste has made the area nearly uninhabitable.

They accuse Senyonga of ignoring their complaints and are urging him to adopt harm-reduction measures.

🇺🇬 BUVUMA: Three Bwema Subcounty Teachers to Miss November Salary for Absenteeism, Drunkenness

BUVUMA — Three teachers at Kyanja Primary School in Bwema Subcounty, Buvuma District, are facing disciplinary action for allegedly absconding from duty and reporting to work while drunk.

The accused—Everline Ithungu, Ronald Muceera and David Kwooba—are said to spend school hours drinking in bars.

CAO Issa Mbooge has withheld their November salaries and summoned them before the Rewards and Sanctions Committee to explain their conduct.

🇺🇬 KALANGALA: Kyamuswa Woman Killed by Husband; Suspect on the Run

KALANGALA — Police are searching for a man suspected of killing his wife, Nakandi Elizabeth, 30, on Nov. 15 in Ntuwa Landing Village, Kyondo Buwanga Parish, Kyamuswa Subcounty.

The suspect, identified as Niyosenga Francis, 47, fled the area after the attack.

Police have arrested two of his associates — Owirage Evu and Ndayisenga Martin — on suspicion of helping him escape. Niyosenga remains at large.

🇺🇬 MUKONO: Man Shot Dead While Stealing Mortar From Stone Quarry

MUKONO — A man yet to be identified was shot and killed early Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Racton Stone Quarry in Namaiba Village, Mukono District.

The incident occurred at around 5 a.m. when the man allegedly attempted to steal mortar from the quarry.

According to preliminary reports, soldiers on routine patrol confronted him and opened fire, killing him instantly.

Workers say theft of building materials at the quarry is frequent and often carried out by organized nighttime groups.

🇺🇬 OYAM: Trailer Crash Sparks Stampede; Child Hit by Stray Police Bullet

OYAM — A trailer accident in Acero Village, Loro Subcounty, triggered chaotic scenes on Nov. 15 after the vehicle (Reg. SSD763H/416AB), loaded with cement, veered off the road and killed a tethered bull.

A large crowd gathered, prompting police to intervene to prevent theft of the cargo. During the commotion, a stray bullet fired by an officer struck a young boy in the head. He was rushed to Aber Hospital for treatment.

Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency on Nov. 16 announced that hackers had infiltrated the country’s e-visa platform, compromising sensitive data of at least 35,000 applicants.

The breach exposed names, photos, places and dates of birth, marital status, addresses and email contacts.

Cybersecurity experts warn the information could be exploited by criminal networks or extremist groups amid Somalia’s continuing security vulnerabilities.

🌍 ADDIS ABABA: Ethiopia Confirms Nine Marburg Virus Cases

ADDIS ABABA — Health authorities in Ethiopia have confirmed nine cases of the Marburg virus, a severe and often deadly hemorrhagic fever similar to Ebola.
The infections were detected in southern Ethiopia, prompting the deployment of rapid-response medical teams.

Officials are urging the public to avoid contact with sick individuals and wildlife, particularly fruit bats which are known carriers.

Marburg outbreaks have historically recorded fatality rates as high as 88%.
