At the base of the rolling hills of Bungoma stands Matili Technical Training Institute (TTI) , an institution that has steadily risen to become a national example of excellence in technical education and institutional management.

Under the leadership of Chief Principal Judith Sande and guided by a committed Board of Governors chaired by Prof. Okumu Bigambo, Matili TTI has transformed into one of Kenya’s most successful public training institutions.

With an estimated 10,000 students, it is now among the largest technical institutes in the country.

Earlier this year, President William Ruto honoured Matili TTI as the Best Managed Technical Institute in Kenya, a recognition that highlighted the institution’s adherence to good governance, transparency and accountability.

The Board, under Prof. Bigambo’s stewardship, has been instrumental in driving reforms that strengthened financial oversight, resource management and institutional integrity.

His emphasis on teamwork, strategic planning and professional ethics has helped Matili create a culture of performance and responsibility across all departments.

The institute has also recorded significant infrastructure growth, with modern workshops, laboratories and classrooms now in place to support hands-on training.

These developments have enhanced learning quality and positioned the college as a reliable producer of skilled, work-ready graduates in engineering, ICT, hospitality and business studies.

Matili’s success is also credited to its collaborative approach, one that encourages continuous engagement between management, staff, students and the local community.

This inclusive model has fostered trust and ensured that institutional development remains aligned with national TVET goals.

As Kenya continues to strengthen its technical and vocational training sector, Matili Technical Training Institute stands out as a reference point for good governance, efficiency and impactful leadership.

Its achievements demonstrate how well-run public institutions can transform lives and contribute meaningfully to national development.
